Yamaha TSX-132BL Desktop Audio System (Black) Review

I use this for a great sounding alarm radio in my bedroom. I originally looked at the TSX-130 with dual alarms. That was an important feature to me. I bought this with the "smart alarm" technology and I wish I could find a black TSX-130. This one will be sold off on eBay as I was remiss on the return policy.

This is a great sounding machine with a deal breaking caveat- a 5 minute, non changeable snooze. The 130 also has a 5 minute snooze but there are 2 separate alarms to program.

I'm coming from a Boston Acoustics Duo which was almost the ultimate bedroom radio for me with an on the fly adjustable snooze by tapping the body circling snooze bar for each 10 minutes. The sound had some issues with an iPod docked at low volumes- the low volume buzz for those that had it, but it was acceptable and the ergonomics for programming on the body were unsurpassed.

I have a new Wave radio which I can only program through the remote and it still hasn't left the box. I was thinking of buying a second BA as they seem to have a lifespan of 2-2.5 years but they were only available in kitchen white for a while and now not at all. I keep a Bluetooth connector in the dock for my iPod and use a Squeezebox to connect to my thousands of MP3s. 2 inputs- retro style. The BA was a joy-almost.

Any recommendations of the next great dual alarm radio. One last thing-if you don't care about dual alarm and just sound, the TSX-132 may be your machine,

This. This is a serious bag. If you've had a dozen bags in as many years because they've broken, worn out, or been otherwise insufficient, you've finally landed on the right one. As others have said, the quality of materials and craftsmanship is outstanding. The design is relatively simple, with very few details - though it has enough subtlety to be useful for those rare occasions when you're not riding a bucking bronco or patrolling the frontier, like pen holders and a clasp for your keys - favoring instead a design and materials that will not rip or break or malfunction. Big chunky buckles, thick straps, solid chrome studs.

The only possible drawback compared to some other bags (but not compared to Saddlebacks, as someone also said), is the weight. It weighs at least as much empty as your messenger bag or lightweight briefcase weighs fully loaded. It also smells intensely of leather for a while - enough to fill up a small office - but for some that'll be a plus. Indeed, when your officemates smell you coming around the corner, and then see the massive neck you've developed from wearing this thing every day, they'll know you're not a man to be trifled with. They will talk about you and invite you to their parties, which you'll graciously turn down with a squinting gaze to the horizon. "No," you'll say, chewing on a straw from Starbucks as if it were a stalk of wheat, "I wish I could, but there are some things a man just can't run away from." LG INFINIA 55LE8500 55-Inch 1080p 240 Hz Full LED Slim LCD HDTV with Internet Applications Review

First, I just received my second set from Amazon today. The first set had an issue on the inside of the GLOSSY glass screen. I couldn't tell if it was a thread or a small crack in the screen. It obviously wasn't supposed to be there, and Amazon swapped it out for me. I'm on my first couple hours on the second set, but I haven't see the same issue with the second set yet. This does support a couple other reviewers suggesting quality control may be an issue with these sets. This contradicts the weight of the TV suggesting it should be very well built.

The TV is stunningly simple to look at. There isn't a lot of extra bezel or showy manufacturer's name plates. I love this, as I'm usually driven nuts at having to look at a constant advertisment of a product I've already purchased. The "LG" that lights up at the bottom when the TV is turned on, can be set to be off when the set is on. This effectively means in a dark room (as mine is), the ONLY thing you see on this TV is the picture...exactly as it should be. The only exception is a small set of lights along the bottom that are only powered during power on and off to inform the viewer of this.

My general impression on the picture quality is mostly very impressed. I'm not a display expert so I'll only state what I notice as a slightly more "techy" than average viewer. These sets do seem to have a screen uniformity issue. Large and bright, white or very light colored sections of the screen will show light horizontal bands. These bands are light, but can be distracting depending on the viewer. It seemed to get better with more hours on the first set, but it could have been the firmware issue. Either way, know that if you watch a lot of content containing mostly white screens, you may want to look at another TV. Some people claim to not be able to see this. Others state they see even more of it during panning scenes. Perhaps there is some difference from one panel to the next. Either way, I have seen it on two sets, so anyone looking at purchasing the set should expect it, unless there is an update (software or hardware) to the set at some time.

I looked at a backlit/local dimmed set like this for one big reason though...CONTRAST. Buying this set to watch solid bright screens would seem to be a waste. Where this particular set really shows it stuff is in the black level it can achieve. Movies are beautiful. I thought my old RPTV had a nice picture, but the sharpness and clarity of the 55LE8500 really put my old set to shame. As mentioned above, when you turn off the LG logo, all you see is the picture. Even if there is letterboxing, you will only see the picture. The rest of the screen will be as black as the bezel, and in a dark room, you won't notice it as letterboxing at all.

Colors are vivid and natural looking. The settings from the factory are pretty decent, but count on using the two extra ISF settings that can be customized to your liking. Having a knowledgable Tech to come over to properly set up the TV would be wise if you can afford it, but it's not neccesary to achieve a nice picture. There is even a built-in menu system to aid you in doing so.

Overall, this is probably the best 2D TV released in 2010. If you can control the lighting in your room, and you don't watch lots of source material with large patches of very light scenes, this is the TV for you. Amazon is a great source for the set, but know the wireless media kit was offered free with the set last week, and the price has been changing dramatically (down and up and back down again). I gave it 4 stars because it could have been a bit better, and probably should have been.

First, the camera is exactly what I need at a price that isn't outrageous. Few consumer cameras have a viewfinder anymore. I need a viewfinder in bright light situations. The display is big and bright. The optics are clear. The optical zoom is usually enough, but the electronic zoom is fine when you can't bring a bunch of stuff with you. The internal memory with two card slots make it pretty hard for me to run out of storage. I do not have a blue=ray burner, but most of my friends won't be able to tell I made a DVD in Standard Definition using 16:9.

Most of the accessories are very useful. I put the skylight filter on right away. The extra batteries are the Vivitar equivalent to the Canon BP-819 which have about 200 minutes capacity. The BP-819 stuck out too far in my old camera, but fits nicely in the HF G10. The external charger has a European plug adaptor which will come in handy for us.

The package I received was missing the wide angle lens. Alex at Sunset Electronics shipped one to me right away. Alex had a great customer service attitude.

I got a couple things in the package I really liked. There was a mini-tripod which is great for travel. I'll be able to use the soft case and hard case right away.

JBL Studio 580 Dual 6.5-Inch Floorstanding Loudspeaker (Each) Review

Prior to buying the 570, I first purchased the matching bookshelf model, the Studio 530 as a stereo pair. I was so impressed with the bookshelf speaker, I next added the matching Studio 520C center channel. For music I really enjoyed the 530 model for stereo listening, and used the 3 channel set up as a partial home theatre. After several months of enjoying this set-up, I began toying with the idea of adding the smallest floor stander in the Studio 500 series, the 570. My listening is done in a moderately sized 11'X11' room dedicated to just my 52" tv and speaker system, with two theatre style leather recliners for a nice open space for music and movies. I hesitated on the floor standing 570's, fearing the bass might overload the space. After much research, I decided to pull the trigger on the 570 pair. I moved the bookshelfs to the rear and already had the matching center in place. WOW! What a difference.
The 570 floorstanders pack a much bigger punch, but without the boomy bass effects I was worried about. In 2 channel stereo mode these speakers are a pure delight, with an open, very detailed sound, big and very lifelike.Cymbals, guitars and vocals just sound totally natural. The mids are full and rich without being bloomy or overly dominant. The bass is tight and full, with good articulation and a sense of body to acoustic instruments. Overall, the 570's present a very natural sound, and the JBL horns are much better to my ears than all the various treble domes I have heard over the years.
In 5.0 mode, the JBL Studio Surround speakers form a seamless blend of highly detailed, very natural sound. Everything is perfectly balanced and forms a perfect surround field in my room.
I tested a variety of BluRay discs, starting with my reference disk, the Roy Orbison Black and White Night concert. I was transported to the music venue. There was no veil or limitation between me and the band. Absolutely incredible. Next up, I tried the new BluRay audio release of the classic Patricia Barber LP, Modern Cool.
In a word, outstanding. From there I branched out over the last several months into my favorite Classical pieces, Jazz and Classic Rock. No matter what I threw at the JBL Studio speakers, everything sounded superb and was fun to listen to. SACD recordings were literally brought to life. Movies were enveloping and the sound enhanced everything I watched. All in all, the Studio 570 loudspeakers are outstanding in every way, from their good looks to their phenomenal sound. Highly recommended.
