Teac AG-H380 AM/FM Receiver USB iPod Interface (Black) Review

This product was purchased to drive a couple of medium sized bookshelf speakers using an iPOD loaded with Apple Lossless files, the built-in FM tuner, and a CD player.
The good part is that the system does work. I get very good sound from the iPod. The FM and CD connection work well also. Note that I did not do a A-B test of the iPOD digital connection versus an iPod analog connection. However the iPod sounds as detailed and clear as the CDs I play on the unit.
The bad part is that the first unit I ordered had to be returned because it got stuck in a "resetting" mode. Thanks to Crutchfield for making the return and replacement procedure easy. The second unit does work.
Also the remote, which controls the unit including the attached iPOD, is very difficult to read with tiny letters in low contrast lettering. The screen on the unit is also limited in space and has to roll information across the screen about the music being played. The process of going through your play list is very slow - a button push for each item. A quick way to scroll through the play lists is needed.
Finally I was very disappointed by the support offered by Teac. I called their tech support number and got the message that they were very busy and to call back some other time. Calling back at other times did not work either. The option of leaving a message for a call back was not offered. Note that when I called Crutchfield to ask a technical question, they did not have the answer (not unexpected with a new product), but they also were not able to get through to Teac for help.
Summary: The receiver has good technology for the use of the digital files, but a lack of consideration for the end user in the working out of remote control details. Also the Teac company seems to have poor tech support for customers and retailers.

7 in 1 Flatbed Color Multi-Function Center with Wireless Network Interface

Brother MFC-640CW Color Multi-Function Center, Wireless Network Ready Review

I purchased this device to consolidate fax and scanning capabilities. I already have a color laser printer when I need high quality printing, but I now use this as my "everyday" printer when I need to print one or two pages real quick (instead of firing up the laser, which takes a while). The ADF is a nice little feature for the price, although it takes a bit of getting used to. It took me a couple of tries to get the ADF to activate. The software has built in OCR and I found the network scanning capabilities nice. For example, in my small office, I have a few machines and can scan to any of them. The ink is also quite affordable for this device.

There are a few minor drawbacks. The implementation of the memory card reader is weak. Also, if the phone line is in use, you can't use ANY of the features except printing from a computer. No scanning or faxing to memory. When sitting on hold for support from a vendor, this can hold up productivity.

All around though, this is a great device with a small form factor and I have been pleased, especially considering the price after discounts and rebates.

Sennheiser Ek 100 G3 - Portable Diversity Receiver with Cl1 1/8-Inch and Cl100 Xlr Unbalanced Output Cables Review

For those with low budgets but don't want junk, Sennheiser EW series is the best. You can set it to other channels to avoid any crosstalk. I've been using them for 12 years now and never had a problem. They are very well engineered and will last. We use them for wireless headsets while performing on horseback. The transmitters and receivers hold up, but we do have to replace the headset every year due to the cable, connector or mic going bad. Each time we add a new receiver or transmitter they always have new features, so Sennheiser is always looking for ways to make their systems better not cheaper like most brands.

You can fully exercise your creativity with the YS-01 which can be used as a primary or secondary strobe in a wide range of applications, from compact digital cameras to DSLR cameras.

Sea & Sea YS-01 Underwater Strobe Flash Review

I use it with a compact camera and Ikelite housing. Performed flawlessly on week long scuba dive trip. Three dives on one set of batteries! Great light color with variable intensity. Has focus light that can be turned on and off for overcast days or night dives. Great strobe if you only want to have one strobe and want a compact kit. Recommend ultra-light adjustable arms over the flex arm since strobe head is heavy and tends to "drift" on flex arm.

Fabulous device, a joy to use, worth saving up for.

This thing is unexpectedly fast to use. Because it's far more precise than my ball heads it sets up as fast or faster whenever careful framing is important. -JD
