Leupold VX-II 3-9x50mm LR Duplex Review

What is there to say? It's a Leupold mid level scope. Great for a hunting rifle. Accurate bullet drop reticle spot on with 30-06 150/180 gr. I have it mounted on a weatherby vanguard 30-06. 200 yard zero, 300, 400 and 500 yard drop. ~ 1.5 inch high at 100.

Dropped a lot of deer with this rifle set up. Leupold quality scope. IMO no need to get a VX-III, this scope is more than adequate for big game hunting up to 500 yards. For what it is intended to do, its a great scope. For about 400 bucks or whatever it costs its a great scope. Always spend atleast as much as your gun cost for optics. I've done the cheaper route before and had a Bushnell Banner break on me right before a hunt.

Only thing I wish it had is a range estimation feature within the reticle like the VX-III does. But what I do is leave it on full power at by judging at how big it is in my reticle I can estimate the distance. (you could also use other traditional methods of range estimation without looking through the scope).

I am much less a fan of Garmin after they told me that they no longer do repairs on my 5 year old GMR24 radar. When buying a $1,500 - $2,000 pice of electronics, I think most people expect service to be available for more than 2 years after the unit is discontinued. KONOVA Slider K3 B2-120cm -47.2-Inch Review

I bought this after seeing some reviews online and looking at footage shot while using it on YouTube and Vimeo. I was very impressed and the price was right (compared to other sliders on the market). It's relatively inexpensive for the production value it adds to your shots. One thing I was disappointed in was the lack of size descriptions (or clear description) here on Amazon when I ordered this model. There are three models, the NA-8, NA-10, and NA-12. They correspond to different lengths. I ended up getting the NA-12, thinking that since it was the most expensive of the three that it had most updated bearings. It turns out that they correspond to the various length of each slider and had nothing to do with the quality. These are specs they emailed to me after I requested it (after my order!):

I now have the 1240mm one and while it's much longer than I need (wanted to be able to travel with it but it's way too long for any kind of luggage, etc) I'm still very very happy with its performance. This is a great quality product. It comes in a very nice carrying case as well and it's quite versatile. I managed to use this 1240mm model on a single Gizo tripod and was able to slide my 5D mkii with no wobble with a Gitzo fluid head mount (center mounted). It's solid. I can assume that it's even more solid on two tripods. Everything about it so good and so far, after only a few uses I have had no problem with it. We'll see how easy it is to clean once I get some sand or dirt into it. So far, better than I expected. p.s. The product was shipped immediately and although it arrived from Korea via DHL I had in my hands in only three days without ordering it rushed! Very impressive! (Now I'm stuck with this large one... I may get the shorter one or try the GlideTrack HD 50cm to compare).

The Panasonic HDC-TM700 is a rare camcorder in that it breaks new ground. The key upside of this camcorder is its 28 Mbps 60P mode -- the camera is capable of recording at 1920x1080 resolution in 60 PROGRESSIVE frames per second. This captures TWICE the image information of the interlaced method, resulting in smoother motion. The TM700 also capture more vertical resolution than other consumer camcorders when used in 60P mode.

There are many features of this camera that blur the line between "consumer" and "prosumer."

Whether you dub the 35mm lens "wide" or not, it's a hell of a lot more wide than any other consumer cam lens I've tried. My $6500 Sony EX1 has a 31.4mm equivalent lens, so the TM700 is in the same ballpark. For me this make a big difference in the practical use of the camera. No longer do I need to carry and constantly attach/detach a wide angle adapter. This also makes me more likely to use the 18X zoom (since there's no wide angle adapter on the cam).

One nice TM700 feature I haven't seen discussed elsewhere is peaking. Quite simply, "peaking" means that the camera outlines objects in focus with a color, so as to help the camera operator achieve correct focus. The camera does include a peaking function when switched to manual focus. Panasonic calls it "manual focus assist." This really helps achieve critical focus with the 260k pixel LCD screen. The peaking color is blue; I prefer yellow, but will gladly settle for blue.

Another upside to the TM700 vis-a-vis other consumer cams is the manual control ring. Panasonic has done a nice job implementing this feature and it's easy to quickly adjust zoom, focus, shutter speed, & iris using the ring. This is a slam dunk win for the TM700 because the competition doesn't even offer a control ring (the control wheel is a far less satisfying alternative).

Some have expressed concern over the cooling fan. The fan does generate some noise when it activates, although it's not always on. The fan has really not been an issue for me so far. I usually use an external mic when I'm serious about capturing quality audio.

I'm a picky camera buyer who usually finds flaws with consumer equipment. But I haven't found many with the TM700. It has a number of nice features like facial recognition (automatically exposing for certain faces), outstanding low-light performance with minimal noise and strong color reproduction, an almost "instant on" technology (you can power on the camera simply by opening the LCD screen or extending the viewfinder), stellar image stabilization, plenty of menu customization options, all the benefits of tapeless workflow...and I could go on.

If you are shopping for a "flagship" consumer camcorder, when considering the TM700 you must ask yourself whether you really care about 60P. After all, it's the 60P mode (and resulting high image quality) that sets this camera apart from its Sony & Canon competitors. I believe that the TM700 in 60P mode produces arguably the best image quality you can find in a consumer camcorder. But you need a fast PC with the right software to edit this material. If you intend to edit your footage, do some homework on this point before making a purchase decision.

If you want 60P...and you can handle 60P... then you will love this camcorder.

I was prepared to love this device but I've had to curb my enthusiasm. I've got the 3.5 MOA dot model with a cross-slot mount on my Ruger MKIII.

First the good news:

- The sight is extremely light, but very solidly and robustly built.
- The lens is completely clear, none of that greenish or yellowish cast that some red dots have.
- It turns off by itself after five minutes of inactivity, but springs instantly to life when you pick it up.
- The intensity of the dot varies according to light conditions, though I have yet to notice much difference
- Settings are retained by a pair of set screws, so they presumably will not change due to recoil and handling.

Now the less good news:

- Elevation and windage are adjusted by turning tiny little screws (wrench provided.) The recesses are so shallow it's often difficult to tell when the wrench has purchase.
- There are no adjustment clicks. You have to eyeball the adjustment using the little lines radiating away from the screw recesses. Since each line moves the dot 7.5 MOA, it is difficult to adjust it precisely and easy to overcompensate. A further difficulty is that the screws provide very little resistance and you sometimes can't tell if the wrench is gripping, as noted above.
- The set screws, though theoretically an advantage, have to be loosened then tightened after each adjustment, which makes for a pretty tedious sight in procedure.

At 25 yds the 3.5 MOA dot basically covers the 10 ring of a 5" target. Using a pistol rest I carefully fired 3-shot groups, then adjusted the sight accordingly. Several times I thought I had it nearly zeroed, but found after adjusting the windage or elevation the other parameter mysteriously changed too. (At this point you may suspect the gun, the ammo or the shooter. All I can say is with the same setup and the $18 Chinese knock off I was replacing I could easily punch out the 10 ring all day.) When it seemed like I was getting close I switched to 3" Shoot 'n C targets (for quicker feedback) and 5-shot groups. I could not consistently get all five shots on target, or even on the same place on the target. The 3.5 MOA dot is a bit large for great precision, but I expected at least two inch groups. After two sessions of an hour or more each I managed to burn through 300 rounds of ammunition and am still not satisfied the the accuracy or consistency of the results. (I hate to think of doing this with center fire ammo.)

Despite these poor results I haven't quite given up on the sight. I'm going to contact Leupold and see if they have any suggestions. I did wonder if it was necessary, as I have been doing, to loosen both set screws when adjusting just windage or elevation. Could the other dial go out of adjustment by itself? Seems unlikely, but maybe possible. The scanty manual provided is silent on this point.

Overall, this would be a perfect red dot sight for many purposes if it can be accurately and permanently zeroed. I would recommend anyone interested in it to proceed cautiously.
