Canon EOS-1D Mark II 8.2MP Digital SLR Camera (Body Only) Review

I'm a recreational photographer, and I love this camera. This is my 7th month with the beast -- since I pre-ordered it early from Amazon by MISTAKE. (Long story)

Before buying the 1D Mii, you should know a few things:

1. It's easy to overlook the spec that the camera's USB connection is 1.1 not 2.0. This is 40 times slower, and Canon clearly intended the Mark II to be connected via firewire. That said, I occasionally use it with my laptop on the road, which only has a USB connection. It's convenient that the port is there, but my 1GB CF card takes a good half hour to empty.

2. By the time you've attached a solid L series or comparable lens to this camera, it weighs enough that lugging it around on your shoulder, even without a camera bag full of tricks, is quite a burden. Also, I was talking to a professional photographer who wouldn't buy the model just because cameras this heavy give her wrist trouble. If you've NEVER held a camera this size in your hand, I recommend borrowing one first or checking our your local camera store, even if you do ultimately buy from Amazon.

3. The camera conveniently supports both SD and CF cards. Unfortunately there's no way to copy between the two cards using the camera. It's not a gigantic deal, but there were times I had to wait to get home from a trip to free up the SD card when I didn't have a camera cable, but just an external CF reader.

Those are really the only 3 things I wish I'd known before I bought the camera...but would they have affected my purchase? Probably not! As I said, I bought the camera by mistake. Has it been loads of fun? Definitely. I have prints almost as good as medium format - at 100 times the convenience.

Leupold Mark 4 12-40x60mm TMR Review

Saw this spotter in the movie, Hurt Locker. Great movie, puts you in touch with what our troops are dealing with every day. Surfed around and read great reviews from the boys that used the Leupold as Mil Issue in the middle east theatre. These were major bucks for me, but the combination of great clarity with the Mildot reticle in the center was intriguing and worth the price... you get what you pay for. Need to get up on fully understanding how the mildot system works. Will use for hunting and mountain travel. I really love that the scope is intended for use inside zippered cover. Very stable for handheld viewing. Can be used with shooting stick for stablilization. Buy with confidence.

I purchased the Rokinon Cine CV14M-C 14mm T3.1 Cine Wide Angle to be used with my Canon 5D MKII for video shooting. It's wide! And I don't see any crazy vignetting. The de-clicked aperture and stop ring is great and lets you customize a little better and it works great with my follow focus without an annoying adjustable ring belt. I am noticing that the images are soft, even with 10x zoom focus assist I can not get it crisp...but pretty darn close, no complaints. It's been amazing in low light and great out on bright SoCal days. *does not support ND filter without mattebox.

- I dropped it from 6 feet up onto pavement and rocks, no damage!! my dslr Cage broke and bent. My 5D MKII and Rokinon 14mm cine are perfect, no damage. (Opteka csx-500 cage). phew! I will be buying another of the same cage, it saved my gear!!

The lens is heavy and is double coated with what looks like a light rhino-tough coating, it looks really cool. It has a large front element, which is scary because it has a lot of surface area to potentially get scratched or dirty. The lens cap is not as snug as I would want it to be and feels thin and cheap. But it does it's job and stays on well enough.

It's a very specific lens and limited in its framing. But, it does what its supposed to do. I've used it to shoot close-ups, architecture, landscapes, action, and animals and its all good.
It is NOT A FISHEYE. But I do notice slight peripheral line bending, but nothing unexpected.

I'm happy with it's performance and especially its durability! and for $449 you can't go wrong, unless you have the cash for a Zeiss Cp.2 or Canon CN-E you have no business looking at this lens or this review.

Incredible shredder for the price. Only shreds a few sheets at a time but the fineness of the particles is worth it. Absolutely no way anyone could ever gain any personal info after shredding. Only complaint is that uses a bag rather than a bin to collect shreds. Have shredded a lot of paper so far with only jam being when feeding too many sheets. Reverse and clears instantly. Highly recommend this shredder to all who cheaped out and bought an undersized shredder and are looking to get a decent one;
