Product Description
Professional photographers whose shoots take them from studio to outdoors will love VANGUARD's new Auctus Plus Series tripod. This ultra stable, flexible tripod enables precise positioning and fine tuning that is great for the studio with extra features that make outdoor shoots a breeze, too. Available in carbon fiber or aluminum, Auctus Plus tripod offers extreme stability and flexibility. Its ultra-smooth Extreme Support Height Positioning (ESHP) Wheel System is a dual-function wheel gear that adjusts central column height securely while supporting heavy gear. This advanced gear wheel also enables precise height fine tuning while holding an extreme loading weight. Auctus Plus' leg locks are exceptionally solid, secure and seal out dust and sand to provide impressive reliability. Setup is quick, too, with one-twist-to-loosen locks. Unique All-terrain Feet convert from anti-rust spikes to angled, textured rubber for secure footing on an array of terrains. It's flexible, too, with legs that adjust to 25, 50 and 80-degree angles for use on uneven ground and for low-angle photography. The Auctus Plus 323CT has a 32 mm top tube and is a three section tripod that at maximum height is 70 7/8 inches. Its folded height is 28 inches and the minimum extended height is 57 1/8. Other features include an innovative locking camera screw wheel, large bubble level, anti-shock ring, leg scales for precise height adjustment, rubber foam grips and bonus snow shoes.Vanguard Auctus Plus 323CT Professional Tripod for Cameras and Camcorders Review
The 323CT tripod from Vanguard is a well constructed, heavy duty tripod intended for studio or field use. It should be noted that this is a "headless" tripod, meaning you must equip the tripod with a conventional 3-axis or ball-head prior to use.The 323CT is constructed of metal and carbon fiber, the carbon fiber use restricted to the legs. The use of carbon fiber makes the tripod strong for its weight, but this is not a tripod you'll be carrying on mountain expeditions. The tripod, without head, weighs a touch over 8 pounds, although it does fold up to a reasonable 28".
All the controls on the tripod are smooth working, particularly the central column elevation crank. The crank actually folds up within a larger wheel and the wheel can be used for minute adjustments. The mechanical advantage is large, which permits for easy and precise movements. This is one of the better central column elevation mechanisms I've ever used.
I have used this tripod with everything from 4X5 view cameras to Hasselblads (medium format) and down to 35mm. It functioned very well in all cases. It's easy to set up and easy to break down. I've used it in the studio and also in the field; it's probably my #1 choice for a field tripod as long as the shot is not too far from the car.
Some of my favorite features of the tripod, in addition to the ultra-smooth center column mechanism, are the large and clearly marked extension markings on the carbon fiber legs (makes it easy to extend each leg equally) and the large feet that significantly increase stability on dirt, sand, tall vegetation, etc. These large feet unscrew to reveal spikes, but I've never found them necessary -- the large feet really do the job.
Bearing in mind that this is not a lightweight backpack tripod, I can recommend this tripod without reservation.
