The picture angle seems best for my purpose of home security - not a fish-eye lens view and not a narrow angle.

The high-definition image certainly is desirable, and you should not settle for less if you want to identify faces. Still, it is not quite as sharp as a high-definition picture on a flat screen tv.

It is not made in China. (Hurray!!) It is engineered in Sweden and made in Hungary.

I have had no quality issues in either product or the video/picture streams.

I cannot say anything about the included software as I did not use it. I am using the free and open software "motion" in Debian OS.

You may not achieve the frame-rate capability of 30 frames per second since there may be a lag while your computer processes the data. I am getting 10 to 16 frames per second recorded on my computer using an Intel i5 cpu plus a graphics card (I would recommend a graphics card for this application).

One negative: There is a large contrast between light and dark. I have these mounted in shaded locations, so the image in the shade is clear and reasonably well lit, but the background in the sun is just white as the pixels are fully saturated there. I'm not sure if contrast can be adjusted, but I suppose it would result in a trade-off.
