I purchased this spotter a few months ago through amazon and have been using it every time at different weather conditions. Though I can say that the optics are excellent, I believe an objective evaluation will be best if compared to my other spotting scopes, namely: Steiner 24x80 military field scope(made in 1989), Optolyth 15-45x80 collapsible spotter, and Swarovski Habicht 20-60x80 st model(at least 15 years old,non-hd glass). In terms of image quality (brightness, contrast, clarity), this zeiss unit is clearly superior to the Steiner, slightly better than the Optolyth, and probably, this spotter is as good as the Swarovski. Color fringing is not as noticeable as those of the Steiner and Optolyth but very,very, very slightly more than that of the Swarovski(only those who are very sensitive to chromatic aberration will notice the difference). The depth of field is about the same as that of the optolyth and the swaro but less than that of the steiner. Surprisingly, with a 65mm aperture, it has a wider field of view than the 80mm steiner but less than the other two 80mm scopes. All units have more than adequate eye reliefs and they are all easy to focus. This zeiss spotter is just as light and portable as the steiner and optolyth (maybe less compact) but looks and feels as tough as the military-grade steiner scope. With its light weight, portability, rugged construction (the body is fully rubber armored as the steiner), and top-notch optics (from the objective to the zoom eyepiece), this Zeiss 18-45x65 Dialyt is an exceptional spotting scope and in my humble opinion is truly worth its price.
