If you are looking for a black finish, solidly constructed TV stand, here it is. I spent over 20 hours in research, and I was willing to spend up to $1000 or more to find a decent stand that wouldn't look cheap. Unlike other black finish TV stands on the market, this piece is not constructed of cheap particle board. This is solid wood with a veneer, and the quality of the finish is excellent. It's a solid black, not distressed; it is a matte finish, not high gloss. I have a receiver, tape player, CD player, turntable, DVD player, and a Wii, and it all fits beautifully into this cabinet with an extra space to spare for a speaker if I'd like. I wanted plenty of space for components so they will get air circulation, and this TV stand allows for that. It's about 24' high--the perfect height for viewing in our family room, and it's about 62' wide, allowing all of my components to fit in it with room to spare. The dimensions of the shelves make them about 19" deep on the inside of the unit. The doors are solid wood with tempered glass, and even the silver handles are contemporary and stylish. The shape of the unit does not look completely rectangular in that the legs are cut at a slight angle, so the TV stand is very sharp looking and contemporary, not boring.

Packaging: The materials were packed very carefully, and we didn't find even so much as a tiny scratch on anything. The only downside is having to vacuum up all the little packing Styrofoam, but it's a small inconvenience in return for a perfectly shipped piece of furniture.

Assembly: The manufacturers have very cleverly designed this to fold in on itself for shipping, so the good news is that you will not have to put together every single plank and screw in order to assemble this stand. This is why the side ends of this unit look as if there are two pieces of wood instead of one solid piece. When we took it out of the box, we found that that the base of the stand folded out to make the basic structure of the unit and we only had to connect the bottom, top, legs, and shelves. You will need to plan on having two people working together to put the bottom piece on; it is an interesting and new way to assemble a piece of furniture in that you will end up having one person push the bottom piece up into the structure while the other person screws it in place from above. It sounds funky, but it totally works. Again, it was a very clever design that minimized assembly for us. It took us about 1.5 hours to put it together counting the clean up effort.

Final notes: If you are component heavy like we are, you will need to drill cable management holes in the back of the stand. The back is not the cheap cardboard you typically see. There is a large hole in the center of the unit, but you will need to have a hole leading to each of the two side component areas. We drilled from the back in to the stand and it took a little bit of the veneer off from the inside (not a lot, and you can't see it at all from the front). You might want to drill from the inside out if you can. I don't think this is worth downgrading the review to 4 stars because a five minute inconvenience is not a big deal to me. I would rather drill a couple of holes than have a cheap piece of furniture.

Save yourself the research hours I already put in. There are problems with just about every other black finish TV stand on the market, whether it's in the quality of materials, assembly instructions, durability of the furniture over the long haul, the dimensions of the stand regarding component storage, or the finish. This is the best one on the market and the price can't be beat. It doesn't get any better than this if you need a console with the right measurements to house a lot of stereo components. Buy it.
