Stability is the key strength of this tripod. If you use your camera for long exposures, very detailed work, and or heavy camera setup then you might want to get this Tripod over the other two carbon fiber tripods in the same series from Manfrotto. The reason being the PRO attachment, which allows for the vertical center column to go horizontal, is less stable than the fixed center column included with this tripod. If stability is not an issue then nothing beats the pro head in speed and convenience.

All other specifications, however, tilt in favor of the 055CX3 including more compact closed length (61cm vs 65cm) and shorter minimum height (6cm vs 11cm). The 055CX3 is basically a classic tripod design taken from previous aluminum design tripods and implemented in carbon fiber. I own a much older aluminum tripod that has the same exact dimensions and function. I never gave up on that tripod except that I wanted to upgrade to a lighter tripod and newer locking levers.

I particularly enjoy the ability to extend only one section of the two telescopic legs and then raise the center column for my desired working height. This arrangement reduces the tripod foot print and minimizes the space required for the tripod making it easier to get closer to objects with prime lenses for close up photography such as food detail for example.
