The Voigtlander Color-Skopar 21mm f/4.0 Pancake lens with the VM lens mount, is designed especially for use with the Bessa R4M/R4A cameras, and will work on any camera that uses the Leica M mount. With the Bessa R4M/R4A cameras that have a built-in bright frame for 21mm, the necessity to use an external viewfinder is eliminated. This ultra-compact wide-angle lens features exceptional close focusing capability, as close as 1.5' (0.5 m). The focusing lever allows you you to go from minimum distance to infinity in less than a 90 degrees rotation. The Apertures is selected via the click-stop diaphragm. With an exellent depth of field scale, the 10 blade, circular aperture will produce smooth and natural renditions of defocused images, with nearly circular shapes of light point sources.

A 21 mm on a full frame camera would be considered an ultra-wide lens, if you are using it on a micro four thirds body, this would be effectively a 42mm FOV.

If you google a little bit, you will find that this is one of the cheapest 21mm M mount lenses out there. The Zeiss and Leica are about 3-4 times the price. You would expect that this lens would be inferior to them in quality but that is not the case at all. In fact, I would argue that this is "better" (gasp) than the Leica counterpart.

I use it both on my Olympus OM-D E-M5 16MP Live MOS Interchangeable Lens Camera with 3.0-Inch Tilting OLED Touchscreen (Silver) with an adapter, or on my Leica M9-P 18MP Full-Frame Digital Rangefinder Camera (Silver Chrome). On a Leica body, it will not bring up 21mm frame lines, you could go in an buy an external view finder with 21mm lines, but that is hardly necessary as I find that the FOV is almost the exact size as the viewfinder on the camera. There is no significant drop off towards the corners with this lens, a testament to the skill and engineering that went into it. I particularly like how it renders blue skies, and it makes for a great landscape lens. If you use it for street photography, it gives a great sense of "space" around the subject, makes for very creative shooting indeed.

This is a gem amongst lenses - smooth focus ring, and an aperture ring that clicks satisfactorily at each half stop. Also has neat focusing tab that helps you quickly zone focus. I recommend that you buy this if you are looking for an ultra wide.
