The TV Shield 19-26 (30) Inch Outdoor Indoor TV Enclosure Case Cabinet Screen Protector Review

Installed this exactly one week ago. So far so good! Installed this on a covered patio (I have an outdoor cover for the power box and had a cable outlet installed right next to it) with the main intent of having some "ambient" noise while grilling and/or yard work. Here was the hardware I used:

-TV Shield 19-26 Inch
-Dynex 24 Inch LED (DX-24L150A11)
-Rocketfish Tilt/Swivel Wall Mount for 13-26 inch TV's (RF-TVMFM01)

Pros:
- Seems pretty weather tight - have had rain all week and nothing got in even with the rain coming in horizontally with crazy wind.
- Has a thread at the bottom to feed through power and cable connections - very helpful
- The glass can be swung open to reach the TV or if you have glare you can open it and "prop" it up with the enclosed rods
- The speaker ports have a downward grill design that lets the water run right off without getting inside (so far at least)

Cons:
- EXPENSIVE! Protecting a $120 investment with a $400 solution doesn't make a lot of sense. Though the proper outdoor TV's here on Amazon are like $1,500.00 and they only get more expensive so this isn't terribly bad. Don't go broke trying put a TV on your patio LOL!

Other thoughts:
1) I HIGHLY RECOMMEND WATCHING THE INSTALL VIDEO THEY HAVE ON YOUTUBE.
They cover a lot of stuff on here and was VERY helpful to have a visual aid. They break the video up with each step and exactly what to do.

2) Also, they are NOT kidding that if you do not measure correctly the first time and start drilling holes, then the enclosure is ruined. I recommend getting some white out and marking the divets in the back to make sure those are marked perfectly prior to drilling.

3) Regarding initial install, the Rocketfish mount sort of worked with this setup. The TV is a 100x100 VESA mount pattern and the bottom 2 holes on the mount did not allow the washer to be screwed in as they are too close to the base of the mount. The other holes/screws were just fine. So just a heads up to anyone looking or the guys at the TV Shield.

In summation: Does exactly what it says it will do and I am very happy with the purchase - just make sure you get your Christmas bonus like I did before spending all the money on this enclosure.

I own both the Impact Mini and its more expensive, more well-endowed cousin, the MiniVee. I use the MiniVee in my home theater system, and the Impact Mini provides low-end reinforcement to my high-end PC sound system consisting of the NuForce Icon-1 amp and S-1 speakers.

The MiniVee and the Impact Mini are about the same size externally, but the MiniVee packs a bigger 8" driver with a longer 'excursion' and a 1000W amp into its 0.7-cubic-foot enclosure. Let me start out by saying that if you've got the money, spring for the MiniVee -- you'll get tighter, firmer, and more musical bass, and a bit more of it. That'll seem like an understatement once the MiniVee socks you in the gut for the first time. The two subs are on entirely different levels; the MiniVee is probably twice the sub that the Impact Mini is (which suits their application in my household just fine).

That said, if you're limited both in budget and in the size of the subwoofer that you (or your significant other) are willing to tolerate, the Velodyne Impact Mini deserves your consideration. It's got a 6.5"-diameter woofer driver with an aluminum cone and a long linear excursion (or 'throw') that's borrowed from the more expensive Velodyne MicroVee (smaller brother to the MiniVee) and coupled via a 0.7-cubic-foot enclosure to a down-firing 8" passive radiator. (A passive radiator serves a function similar to a reflex port, but its diaphragm can be weighted to allow deeper bass reproduction from small enclosures.)

One spot where you'll make some meaningful sacrifices is in the power department. The Impact Mini is the most powerful sub in the Impact series at 180W RMS, 300 peak, and it can still sound astonishingly loud, but it begins to sound strained at high output as the amplifier and woofer both run out of juice. Through it all, the amp doesn't get dangerously hot, though it does become warm, and the aluminum cone of the active driver may also become warm as it dissipates the heat from the 2" voice coil -- which is massive for a driver its size.

You'll be impressed with the way this sub can fill bedroom-sized spaces -- it brought a YouTube video of a Saturn V rocket engine test to life with shocking power -- but don't expect it to fill a 18'x24' great room with vaulted ceilings to any great effect; its smaller driver just won't be able to move enough air. This sub needs the right room to really shine, but it's not difficult to mate it to a variety of smaller sound systems. The natural pairing would be to use the Impact Mini with a system of small satellite speakers in a den or small living room.

The other spot where the Impact Mini falls short of the pricier MiniVee is in its musicality. The Impact Mini is refreshingly low in distortion until it's obscenely overdriven, but short, staccato sounds in rapid succession like the speedy double-kick drum on heavy metal tracks can begin to run together noticeably more than they do when played back through a sealed-box subwoofer like the MiniVee. The Impact Mini's performance with most music is fairly satisfying, however, and I've had no qualms about pairing it with the NuForce Icon-1 and S-1 system that I use at my PC.

What makes the Impact Mini something truly special is that it outperforms many of the 10" subwoofers I've heard, while sounding better and doing it all in an enclosure that's half their size. None of my complaints are enough to change the fact that the Impact Mini is an incredible little performer for its price, and if you can't afford the MiniVee or Velodyne's even more expensive Optimum-8, the Impact Mini is a shoo-in. With the Impact Mini, Velodyne has translated their mastery of the small, potent subwoofer product category into an eminently practical, affordable package.

I have been recently forced by Pentax to buy this flash to complement my new K10D.

I already had AF500FTZ and a few other Pentax TTL flashes which worked perfectly well with my *istDs, but for some reason Pentax decided not to support plain TTL any more in the new K10D body.

My AF540FGZ broke almost immediately - when I turned it on the zoom was stuck in manual mode @ 16 mm. A brand new flash! If you look in the Internet, you will find out that it is not just a single isolated case, but a well-known bug. I would consider this to be a design/manufacturing issue.

The door of the battery compartment is not easy to open. Moreover, its locks are somewhere in the middle part of the door, the door is rather long and the material it is made of is not strong enough. When you put batteries in, the edges of the battery compartment door are pushed out. Not a critical issue, but product engineering should have considered this.

I own plenty of Pentax stuff which I am really happy with. Pentax quality used to be outstanding. So, this is my first bad experience. VERY dissapointed.

From the positive side, I liked the wireless functionality and the fact that 540 can be operated by the built-in flash of my K10D (no additional master flash is required).

UPDATE: Pentax USA have sent me the International Warranty Card for this flash - very good customer support.

UPDATE 2: I have received my flash unit back, repaired. It took almost two months: it was sent out to Pentax on July 31 (received by Pentax on August 7), and I got it back from repair on September 28. Even if the return shipping from repair took a few days, this is still much longer than stated on Pentax web site (15 - 20 working days). Just FYI.

BDI Avion 8928 Double Wide Enclosed Cabinet - Espresso Stained Oak Review

I purchased this cabinet a few months ago. It is beautiful and suits my home theater perfectly. The top speaker compartment fits my entire Bose system, the lower part of the cabinet is fully adjustable, and there's even a center spot that we use for the X-box.

The cabinet comes fully assembled (just have to add a little bit of hardware). The packaging is great, and everything arrived in excellent condition. The finish is beautiful.

I checked out the company that makes this (BDI) and they are known for high quality home theater furniture, and their expertise shows! Every detail has been addressed... from concealed wheels in the legs to wire management channels (they even give you Velcro strips for your cables!). My favorite is that the back panel easily goes in and out. I am still fiddling with my setup and going in and out is very easy.

I really think this was a great value. I was a little put off by the price, but this is not some disposable TV stand... this is going to be with me for life. I am already considering another model for the bedroom. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!
